Coach Charyl Teal

An avid swimmer since the age of 3, Charyl Teal first stepped into the role of a swimming professional by the time she was 16, earning her first round of certifications: Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, First Aid, CPR and Pool & Beach Management. Over the next ten years, she utilized her certifications while working for the City of Columbus Ohio, the Easter Seals of Ohio, Ohio State University and the YWCA of Columbus. During which time she coached upwards of a thousand students in swimming and diving, from beginner to competitor.

Charyl went on to receive her Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering Technology and eventually found herself working as a tech professional at both NASA and Apple Computer.

 

Charyl  wanted to share with her family the joys of swimming and knew there was no one better to teach her children, than herself. Soon enough, she found herself fully engaged in teaching other families in her neighborhood.

 

What started as casual lessons in the backyard grew into the business it is today – The Aquatic Academy.  Even as the business continues to grow, Charyl still holds those central ideals at heart which motivated her to share her knowledge and expertise with those around her: that learning to swim is an essential life skill, and that no child is ever really safe around the backyard pool unless they have the knowledge and skills to swim independently.

In addition to her capacity as Owner/Operator and Lead Coach at the Aquatic Academy, Coach Charyl works part time as an Assistant Coach for Pearland Aquatics (PEAK) Swim team, where she teaches athletic and competitive swimming.  Visit www.pearlandaquatics.org for more information about their year-round and summer swim team programs.

Coach Charyl is certified in WSI, AFO, First Aid/CPR/AED instructor, Babysitting Instructor, Swim Angelfish Swim Whisperer, Lifeguard Management, Lifeguard, Swim America Program Director, USA/ASCA Level 2 Swim Coach.
